City of angels

It’s been difficult to adjust to our surroundings - losing loved ones and keeping distance from our friends & family to overcome this pandemic. With each rise and fall of the sun and moon, angst begins to emerge. I am not immune.

May 1st. May 3rd. May 5th.

The beginning of this month was a reminder to myself to celebrate & to love those around us. Once upon a time, there lived a king. People first called him “The kid”, then “The sidekick”. He dubbed himself “The Mamba”. After some time, he earned the title “MVP” and “Champion”. Nowadays some call him GOAT, hero, and all call him legend. His name is Kobe Bryant, husband to Vanessa and girldad of Natalia, Gianna, Bianka, and Capri.

He and Gigi alongside 7 beautiful souls tragically passed on Jan 26, 2020. The day earth stood still.

Deep breath.

Twitter was on a rampage and it might’ve just been me(?) but I was refreshing my feed every second as tears flowed down my face. It was a dark time.

You can possess that mamba mentality. And that’s dedication. And that’s the fight. So even in the darkest times, you’ll feel Kobe’s light.

The weeks after were enlightening. If you were a fan of Kobe’s, there was a different aura surrounding us, reminding ourselves to love and to cherish every moment. In an act of carpe diem, my brother Patrick and I, made the trip to the City of Angels. Being in Los Angeles with Kobe and non-Kobe fans alike was extremely empowering. It was a time of healing.

And the beginning of this month was a time of celebration. I made a small video to honor our trip that day on the 8th of February. Happy belated Gianna and Vanessa Bryant. We love you Kobe.

RIP Kobe and Gianna Bryant, Alyssa, Keri, and John Altobelli,
Payton and Sarah Chester, Christina Mauser, and Ara Zobayan
